Raleigh is one of my favorite places on the earth.
I fell even more in love with it this morning.
This morning was the 7th annual Krispy Kreme Challenge.
For those of you who don't know what this is....
"The Krispy Kreme Challenge is an annual student operated race in Raleigh, North Carolina benefiting the NC Children's Hospital. Beginning in 2004 with a mere 12 participants, the race has grown exponentially to a whopping 5500 runners in 2009. The race has rapidly become of the NC State's newest traditions.
Beginning at the NC State Belltower, each runner runs 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme store located on Peace St. in Raleigh. After downing a full dozen of the famous Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the runner must run the 2 miles back. All in one hour."
So Sam, Bradley & Sarah and I got up early this morning to go watch.
One because we all had a couple friends participating.
Two because we wanted to see the strategy behind downing a dozen doughnuts before & after a 2 mile haul.
Before the race we all went to the Krispy Kreme where the event was taking place to get some breakfast. We all downed our 2 doughnuts & coffee and were completely stuffed.
The one thing that was a disappointment this morning... was the weather.
Really cold & rainy.
But that didn't stop us from pulling out the camera and having a great time.
It was so much fun. There were people dressed from batman costumes to shorty-short shorts.
We did happen to see a couple of our friends who were participating while they attempted to eat their entire box of doughnuts.
& I know this is gross and all... but I really wanted to see someone throw up, for some odd reason. We moved around a bunch so we could see everybody and hope to see some chunks..
As we left the "eating the full dozen" part of the race.. I was oddly disappointed to see everyones food remain in their stomach. So we headed towards the belltower to see people finish. &&& that's where I saw my guy. As soon as he crossed the finish line.. yellowish, diluted water & doughnut came spewing out.
Krispy Kreme Challenge was indeed successful.
I am completely regretting that not taking part in it.
So Sarah & I are planning to do it next year.
We have our strategy all planned out and we have started our countdown to training.
Days until 8th annual Krispy Kreme Challenge:
365
Happy Saturday!
I know someone who was going to run in this today but hurt her knee...sounds disgusting....except for the doughnut part!!:) We can have a tag relay team next year...I'll eat the doughnuts...YOU can run.
