the one twice new.

i am so excited about this christmas. for multiple reasons of course. but i thought i would share a new thing we are starting this year. on one side of my family, we have decided to do a twice new christmas gift exchange. the rule is that all gifts must be bought at places like consignment shops, flea markets, antique malls, thrift shops, goodwill, or habitat restores. i personally, love the idea. one. because i love to shop at those kinds of stores, i could spend hours in them. two. because the idea of twice new fascinates me.

mom and i actually share this love. so we threw some jeans on this chilly saturday morning and headed to winston to do some consignment christmas shopping.

we started out at salvage building materials.

it was a cold warehouse with tons of... well, building materials. it definitely wasn't my favorite.. so let's move on.

salvage was in downtown winston.. i. love. downtown. winston. it is completely gorgeous, and rich with a good mix of rugged buildings, streets, roads and sharp new architecture. one of my favorite things about it is the random shops and stores hidden in the nooks and crannies of streets. we found krankies. this saaaa-weeeet coffee shop on a deserted corner. it just had a cool vibe. i will definitely be bringing my engagement couple to this coffee shop for some abstract pictures, in a couple weeks. i ordered a simple coffee & mom got a mocha. it was heaven.

what made if even better was that as soon as we walked outside of krankies the snow began to pour? float? increasingly flake fall? haha, regardless. lots of snow began to fall. making the upcoming christmas shopping soooo much sweeter. needless to say it definitely put us in the christmas mood.

next stop. antique mall. amazing. we spent a good 2 hours in there trying to look at everything. which is impossible, but we gave a valid effort. i love the time lines revealed in these stores. we saw so much, that didn't make sense to me but i loved it. we had a great time and bought a ton of stuff! some of my favorite things included...

antique cameras... i collect them!

cool kitchen ware.

random stuff like old jars filled with nuts & bolts...

& unopened cans of wolfpack "red soda".

old, classy, reading glasses.

it was so much fun. 2 hours very well spent. and went we walked out with hands full of tissue wrapped goodies, the ground was completely white. we were thrilled. we spent the rest of the day going to other thrift stores, fresh market, wal-mart, sam's club and lowe's. we got our mileage in, that's for sure (i would say we are about 98% done with our shopping now after our antique brigade). but it was fun and yet so productive.

twice new rocks! i hope it remains the theme to our christmas gift exchange with the vogler's.

i cannot wait to see how wonderful your photography session with them will turn out..as always.

i cannot believe it is already december and yesterday definitely set the christmas mood.
oh yes this just reminded me yesterday i was going to my brothers game and there was this little boy outside with his dad and he was playing in the snow and looked at his dad and was like

"daddy we have to get home because santa is coming"

..so the snow definitely put everyone in the christmas spirit (:

  8. Love this Blog...several of the pics were intriguing to me...starting with pack soda, I have a can like that at moms. The Vogler's service on the book... What is that? a four digit phone number. Great shots of W-S buildings. The old, classy, reading glasses pic is a hoot. I do believe that you and TeeTee are going to be the ones to beet on the twice new competition.
